Marlborough New Zealand – 41.5917° S, 173.7624° E

CRAFTED FROM WANDERLUST

An ode to the creation of the first map of New Zealand, and a tip of the hat to all the ‘map makers’ of this world - Map Maker wines embrace the excitement of ‘taking flight’ on intrepid voyages of self-discovery and innovative exploration.

Cultivated in the Southern Valleys of the Wairau Plains in Marlborough, New Zealand. Map Maker grapes are vibrant and expressive. A small portion of hand-harvested fruit from select vineyards is barrel fermented in old French barriques. Wild yeasts expand the personality of each varietal, enhancing the breadth of flavors and imparting a surprising richness and complexity.

MARLBOROUGH,
NEW ZEALAND TERROIR.

The Marlborough wine region is synonymous with a ‘new’ and distinctly expressive style of Sauvignon Blanc and elegant Pinot Noir.
Known as ‘the place with the hole in the cloud,’ this hallmark region has cool temperatures, high sunshine, and little rainfall - producing vividly intense wines. Map Maker wines offer a slight twist on the classic Marlborough profile, an eccentric meeting of old worlds and new.

EXTRAORDINARY SAUVIGNON BLANC

Map Maker Sauvignon Blanc bursts with raw energy and purity. Intensely aromatic with savory herb and dry stone notes - you’ll find it curiously creamy, balanced with a bold tang of green capsicum, lime zest, gooseberry, and tropical fruit. Download tasting notes (PDF).

Pinot NOIR

Map Maker Pinot Noir is worldly and sophisticated. Post-fermentation maceration adds rich color, flavor, and a grainy tannic structure. You’ll find aromas of ripe black cherries, wild violets, and cedarwood, along with savory dried herbs, and wild game flavors.

INSPIRED BY A HISTORY OF EXPLORATION

Back in 1642, Dutch explorer, seafarer, and original map maker, Abel Tasman set sight on New Zealand for the first time. He named it Staete Landt. Fast forward to 1996, and another Dutchman (and intrepid winemaker) Ruud Maasdam set sail to start a new life in the South Pacific.

Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough

This is a harmonious Sauvignon Blanc that says Marlborough without screaming it. Pale, almost colorless in the glass, there's a pungent tang right from the start that mingles with passionfruit, grapefruit, black currant leaf, and green bell pepper aromas. Acidity is fresh but never searing, with some depth of flavor, texture, and length to the finish.

Stunning scents of fresh ginger, gooseberry, and key lime. Passion fruit and tart grapefruit swaddle the palate with prickly pear electricity. Mandarin orange offers a hint of salinity mid-palate, and a creamy meringue fills out the finish.
