Cultivated in the Southern Valleys of the Wairau Plains in Marlborough, New Zealand. Map Maker grapes are vibrant and expressive. A small portion of hand-harvested fruit from select vineyards is barrel fermented in old French barriques. Wild yeasts expand the personality of each varietal, enhancing the breadth of flavors and imparting a surprising richness and complexity.
The Marlborough wine region is synonymous with a ‘new’ and distinctly expressive style of Sauvignon Blanc and elegant Pinot Noir.
Known as ‘the place with the hole in the cloud,’ this hallmark region has cool temperatures, high sunshine, and little rainfall - producing vividly intense wines. Map Maker wines offer a slight twist on the classic Marlborough profile, an eccentric meeting of old worlds and new.

Back in 1642, Dutch explorer, seafarer, and original map maker, Abel Tasman set sight on New Zealand for the first time. He named it Staete Landt. Fast forward to 1996, and another Dutchman (and intrepid winemaker) Ruud Maasdam set sail to start a new life in the South Pacific.
Wine crazy since his teenage years, Ruud’s journey to Marlborough, New Zealand was fuelled by a deadset conviction that it was the best place in the world to grow grapes and craft extraordinary, eclectic wines. Ruud is a boutique winemaker and the founder of Staete Landt wines.
